The tool requires some time to load… please wait for a few seconds until you see the map.

You can zoom in and out of the map using the [+] and [-] buttons in the top left of the map window.

Above the [+] and [-] buttons, there is a double arrow button [>>]. If you click that, it opens the Map Legend. The Map Legend shows all of the layers available in the spatial analysis tool.

To the left of each layer, there is a white box that you can click to apply the layer. A layer which is applied has a blue check mark next to it in the Map Legend. When you open the Map Legend for the first time, the only layer that should be applied is the very top layer, “City of Savannah Boundary (SAGIS, 2020).” You can check multiple layers at a time to see how they are related to each other.

When you apply a map layer, an arrow shows up to the right of its entry in the legend (>). If you click the arrow, it will show more information about the layer, specifically what the colors you see represent. If you want to see a more detailed description of each map layer, you can click through the gallery layers below the mapping tool.

Each layer on the map has a tag at the beginning of its name which correlates with one of the three dimensions of sustainability (ENV - environmental quality, ECON - economic productivity, and SOC - social equity).

Some layers on the map require extra steps to view. The second to last layer, “ENV: Urban Heat Island Severity,” will not show up if just the layer in the Map Legend is checked. Please click the arrow in the upper right hand of the layer, to open more information. Then, click the sublayer “City Heat Islands” to see the “ENV: Urban Heat Island Severity” layer.

The two “ECON: All Businesses” layers will only show up if you are zoomed in to the city level on the map. To view these layers, check the box to the left of them and zoom in a few times until you can see the colorful dots.
